Short film/Single-Channel Video Installation, 2015.
Role presents a 5-minute uncut, unchoreographed Brazilian Jiu Jitsu match between Farhad Akhmetov, an advanced male fighter, and Porter, a female novice. In the film the fighters are nude, stripping the specificity imbued on a gesture by costume in order to blur the lines between life, sport, and art, thereby making literal the process of submission, and rendering the performers entirely vulnerable both to each other and to viewers.
